Legal &/ or Ethical issues P2 (g)

Copyright Law:
A person who commissions the making of photographs or films for private and domestic use has a right to privacy. That means that such films may not be issued to the public, shown in public, or communicated to the public without the permission of the person who commissioned the photograph or film. Photographs and films jointly commissioned entitle the commissioners to a privacy right. The right to privacy subsists for as long as the copyright term of the work.

The performance of a short film or music video must be made in compliance with copyright law. One of the rights of the copyright owner in the film is the right to make a 'public performance' of it. Therefore, the performance of a copyrighted film must be made only with permission for the copyright owner or consistent with one of the exceptions or limitations in the copyright law.

I require signed permission from the model/actor, firstly because it would avoid disrupting privacy, and secondly it avoids misrepresentation which is the action or offence of giving a false or misleading account of the nature of something. These contracts protect against it because it allows the model/actor to claim damages in the case of fraudulent misrepresentation.

Royalties is a sum paid to a patentee for the use of a patent or to an author or composer for each copy of a book sold or each public performance of work. These are paid by the record company to the publisher.

Here is my email to Columbia Records which is George Ezra's record label to ask for their permission to use his track 'Listen to the Man'
If I do not ask for permission then I could be accused of copyright because the song does not belong to me and so I would be stealing it potentially, so asking for permission is vital.
