Linking Audio to visuals and Applying effects P4 (d)
For all my clips on the timeline, I had to get rid of the audio so that when I added the music video song 'Listen to the Man' by George Ezra there was no background sounds from the clips.
Here is one of the clips I had to edit so that I could get rid of the audio.
Firstly, I clicked on the clip I wanted to edit, and then right clicked and unlinked the audio from the link like shown below.
I then selected the audio clip...
And deleted it, leaving the clip without audio on the timeline.
I then added, the music, "Listen to the Man' by George Ezra and dragged it onto the timeline where it says 'Audio 1'
Here I am matching visual of Sam singing to the audio which is lip sync. I unlinked Sam's original audio clip that was attached to his visual and deleted it so that I could link the song. This was tricky and I had to be very careful that they fitted and worked together. I did this by cutting out parts of the visual clip so that it fitted perfectly with the audio clip.
Applying Visual Effects P4 (c)
There were many changes and edits I made to improve my clips for the music video.
Here are examples of what I did to my clips:
Original:
Edited: As you can see, the original clip of Chloé looking worried was too yellow and so, I changed the Fast Color Corrector so that I could get a more realistic view of the clip.
Original:
Edited: Here I have changed the RGB curves to give the clip a more bluer look which makes it more realistic.
Original:
Edited: Again, I am changing the Fast Color corrector to give the clip a more realistic look as the original looked too yellow.
Here, I also added a video effect which made the image on screen fade into the next image on the timeline. This made it more interesting and exciting rather than just moving onto the next clip without an effect.
Here is a more clearer picture of what I did above, As you can see the video effect makes the image fade into the next image making it more interesting.
For this clip, I changed the blue RGB curves which gave it a more realistic view, and cut out the yellowness of the clip.
This effect makes the image blackout before the next image comes up which also adds variety to the music video, making it more interesting and exciting for the viewers.
Here I replicated the shot of Sam singing and added different points as to where it would then replicate again, and then it would go back to one shot of Sam. This made it more exciting rather than just watching a plain shot of Sam singing.
Here as you can see I added a slide effect, so the previous shot suddenly slides over to Sam singing to make the video more exciting.
As you can see there are many ways you can edit clips including video effects, colour changes etc.
Here are examples of what I did to my clips:
This table helped me to apply changed to clips to ensure I got the best results with my music video.

Here I also changed the input and output levels which helped with the colour of the clip, and gave it a nice realistic effect.

Producing and reviewing an off line edit P4 (b)
We edited our music video on Premier Pro. On this, you have a timeline of where I put my videoclips, the shots on the timeline are put in order, and there is a red line that when you put the red line on a specific clip, it will show above of the shot. The red line is called the time code indicator.
Here are examples of my timeline with the renamed video clips:
The red line is no on the clip 'doing makeup.MOV' which is shown above.
And then here the red line is on the clip of Sam singing which is shown on the screen above.
The red line is now on the clip where Chloé is on her laptop.
Now it is on the clip 'Anna walks in.MOV'
And lastly, the red line is on the clip 'standing up to anna.MOV' which is then shown on the screen above.
This tall, is the cutting tall where I was able to cut different clips to suit my music video. You then need to select the arrow on the left hand side to click on the scene and either delete any unwanted clips or move the clip to another place on the timeline.
Here are different effects I can use to edit my clips. For example I used Fast color Corrector to change the colour of the clip. In my case, the color of my clips turned out yellow, so I used this effect to turn the clip to a better color to suit my video.
Here are examples of my timeline with the renamed video clips:
So as you can see above, the red line on the timeline is on the clip named 'jumper.MOV' which allows it to show on the top right hand corner so that I can see exactly what clip it is and how long it lasts.
The red line is no on the clip 'doing makeup.MOV' which is shown above.

Logging rushes & creating an edit decision list P4 (a)
To make editing easier, I renamed all my rushes so that I knew exactly what shot it was.
From the screenshots below you can also see the timings of each clip.
Here, as you can see this is the scene where Chloé is putting on her jumper and so to ensure I knew exactly what scene it was, I renamed the video to 'jumper.MOV'
We used the Canon 7D DSLR and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 mf/af lens because we wanted a human eye effect for this shot.

This shot was renamed 'doing makeup.MOV' so I knew that this was the scene where Chloé was putting on her mascara.
Here we used the Canon 7D DSLR and Canon EF 85mm fixed f/1.8 USM medium telephoto mf/af because it was good for focus pulls. In this scene we wanted Chloé to come into focus while the background gradually goes out of focus which is why we used this type of lens.
This shot was renamed to 'Good singing video' as this was the best shot we got of Sam singing and so by this new name, I knew this was the important shot I wanted of Sam in the music video.
Here we used the Canon 7D DSLR and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 mf/af lens for the human eye effect.
This shot was renamed to 'school typing.MOV' so I knew that this was the scene where Chloé was at school on her laptop.
For this shot we used the Canon 7D DSLR and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 mf/af lens for the human eye effect.
This shot was renamed to 'Anna walks in.MOV' so I knew that this was the scene where Chloé is sitting at the desk and in the background the bully walks in and laughs.
Here we used the Canon 7D DSLR and Canon EF 85mm fixed f/1.8 USM medium telephoto mf/af focus pulls. We needed the focus pulls, when Anna walks in, as we wanted to gradually take Chloé out of focus so that the audience can focus their attention on the bully.
This shot was renamed to 'Anna's eyes' so that I knew this was the scene where we film a closeup of the bullies eyes.
Here we used the Canon 7D DSLR and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 mf/af lens for the human eye effect.
I renamed this shot to 'singing side view.MOV' so that I knew this was the scene where we got a side view of Sam rather than front view. This was for variation so that the singing shots did not all look the same, to make it more interesting and exciting.
Here we used the Canon 7D DSLR and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 mf/af lens for the human eye effect.
I renamed this shot to 'around the room.MOV' so that I knew this was the scene where we filmed a shot of the whole room to set the scene.
Here we used the Canon 7D DSLR and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 mf/af lens for the human eye effect.
I renamed this shot to 'zoom in laptop.MOV' so that I knew this was the scene where we are in Chloé's bedroom zooming in on her laptop so that the audience know it will have an important role in the next shot.
Here we used the Canon 7D DSLR and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 mf/af lens for the human eye effect.
This shot was renamed to 'typing medium shot.MOV' so that I knew this was the medium shot of the laptop. This ensured that I did not get mixed up with the medium and the closeup shot of the laptops.
Here we used the Canon 7D DSLR and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 mf/af lens for the human eye effect.
This shot was renamed to 'typing closeup.MOV' so that I knew this was the closeup rather than the medium shot.
Here we used the Canon 7D DSLR and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 mf/af lens for the human eye effect.
This shot was renamed to 'MLK 1.MOV' which stands for Martin Luther King shot 1. This was the first shot we got of Chloé looking at a video of MLK.
Here we used the Canon 7D DSLR and the Canon EF 85mm fixed f/1.8 USM medium telephoto mf/af focus pulls. Here we focused on the laptop while Chloé was blurred. This is an over the shoulder shot.
I renamed this shot to 'MLK closeup 2.MOV' so that I knew this was the closer shot of MLK.
Here we used the Canon 7D DSLR and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 mf/af lens for the human eye effect.
I renamed this shot to 'walking in nervous.MOV' so that I knew this was the scene where Chloé walks back into school looking nervous before she stands up to the bully.
Here we used the Canon 7D DSLR and the Canon EF 85mm fixed f/1.8 USM medium telephoto mf/af focus pulls. For this shot the background was blurred, while Chloé was in focus so that she was the main subject seen by the audience.
I renamed this shot to 'standing up to anna.MOV' so that I knew this was the scene where Chloé is standing up to Anna near the end of the music video.
Here we used the Canon 7D DSLR and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 mf/af lens for the human eye effect. This was effective because we could see clearly what was going on, and that Chloé was finally standing up to the bully.
I renamed this shot to 'anna sad 1.MOV' so that I knew this was the first shot of the bully looking upset after Chloé stood up to her. Here we can see slight guilt by the facial expressions of the bully.
Here we used the Canon 7D DSLR and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 mf/af lens for the human eye effect. This ensured that we could clearly see the change in body language of the bully.
I renamed this shot to 'relief.MOV' so that I knew this was the finishing scene where Chloé walks out looking relieved after standing up to the bully.
Here we used the Canon 7D DSLR and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 mf/af lens for the human eye effect for a clear finishing shot.
Shot List:
Following Production Processes P3 (d)
To follow production processes we had plans of different ways of filming with a variety of camera angles and settings.
Here is a diary of filming to show how we achieved the creative vision we were trying to achieve. We were able to film all the scenes of Chloé on Saturday the 29th September 2014. We filmed Sam on the 14th February 2015.
14th February 2015: Here we were trying to create a fairly plain picture so that the focus was on Sam who was miming the song. We directed Sam to face the camera and just move to the music to make it look realistic.
Saturday 29th September 2014: Here we started filming by the window and moved the camera slowly to the right, and as we passed Chloé she would put her jumper on. This made it more exciting then if we had just filmed her straight ahead.
Saturday 29th September 2014: Here as we film Chloé about to put her makeup on, she is out of focus. We did this by putting the shutter speed on a low setting to give it a longer exposure, allowing more light in and making the motion blurred.
Saturday 29th September 2014: Here we did the opposite as we began to make Chloé come back into focus. So we increased shutter speed giving it a shorter exposure, allowing less light in so that the motion stopped making it in focus. We made the background blurred so that the focus was on Chloé. We did this by setting the aperture fairly low to give it a shallow depth of field, allowing more light in so that the background was blurred.
Saturday 29th September 2014: Here we experimented with different angles so that there was a variety to make the video more exciting. By doing this we were shortening clips that were too long by adding short clips of different angles. This would also help the viewer to understand what is going on ,by showing a variety of the settings and location.
Here, again we wanted to have Chloé in focus, until the bully walks in, and we would then make Chloé become out of focus while the bully was in focus, so that the viewers attention was on the bully. To do this we, we made the aperture slightly low to give it a shallow depth of field, allowing more light in so that the background was slightly blurred.
Saturday 29th September 2014: Here we wanted to get Chloé and the bully in the same frame, to show the viewers the body language of the two actresses. As you can see, we made Chloé look short in front of the bully to show that the bully was the superior person. We also asked Chloé to look upset, while the bully was smiling to help show the viewers what was happening in this situation.
Saturday 29th September 2014: This was the same scene as the picture above, but we used a different angle for more variation and made the scene more exciting. This also helped to show the facial expressions of the bully, so that the viewers could understand the situation. This over the shoulder shot represents continuity.
14th February 2015: Here we used another different angle of Sam singing, to add variation and make the video more exciting.
For these scenes we used the Canon 7D DSLR and the human eye lens 50mm.
